Cold and Wet in Fort Lauderdale

WE had a nasty day yesterday. In the 50's and rained all day. This morning it is quite windy and cold and 35 degrees, but looks dry outside. We are still in bed, trying to stay warm.

Here is an image of all the different places we have stayed on our journey to head South. Pretty exciting seeing it all mapped out.

Since we have been here in Ft Lauderdale, we have managed to reconnect with long time family friends Pat and Richie McMechen (Carryn's parents friends from New Jersey). They live in Boynton Beach, FL and drove down to Ft Lauderdale for a visit. We all managed to fit into the dinghy, including Bella for a ride back to the boat to show them our new home. It is always fun to share our boat with people who don't have any idea what to expect. They were pleasantly surprised and we were thrilled to get a chance to catch up with them and hear all about their children and grandchildren. Also, we like to wish them an early Happy 50th Wedding Anniversary!!! It will be 50yrs on January 23rd. Congratulations!

The project for today is replacing our battery bank. We bought 2 new batteries last year they have an 18 month warranty and Brandon is sure they are not holding a proper charge. Well we are on a mooring ball, freezing cold and each battery weighs over 100lbs. We have friends here with a car who are willing to run Brandon over to West Marine to have them tested and replaced. What an ordeal to get these batteries out of the engine room hoisted up and over the life lines and slowly lowered into the dinghy. The whole process took an hour and he only took one battery to not leave me here in the boat without any heat. Don't ask me if he will be able to do the second battery today. We hate tying up our friends whole day just running Brandon back and forth to West Marine.

In the meantime, I hope all of you are staying warm I know it has been extremely cold all over the country. I will let Brandon inform you of the details from today's project, if anybody is interested, and perhaps he may be to exhausted to share.

I love seeing the map on all of your stops along the way! This is so cool guys. Sorry to know bitter cold day, we saw that on the local weather report. At least not raining....those batteries sound like a nightmare.

It's sunny here today, but cold as well. I am sure not nearly as cold as it is on the water where you are that's for sure.

Dad is making the family beer pot roast tonight and we are all headed over there for dinner. Lisa and Jay included -- so maybe we can try to skype you guys after dinner or something.

I talked to Meg this morning--she's as always very busy and as you know in the process of storing and staging their house to sell. They put money down on their lot in Watkinsville in the Meridian sub-division. I looked it up today--looks really nice. I am excited for them.

It's been a low key weekend for me, and that's a good thing. I am ready to tackle another day at work. That's big news from the McMechen's...wow 50 years...so wonderful.

Tom said that they found the perfect boat for Jay -- Jay is still on the fence on whether to move forward or not. All are supportive, but at the end of the day of course it's his call.

Taylor's pig is doing great and staying warm. Of course par for course starting new year, we've got some fairly costly expenses looming for this week---the pool gasket blew, Taylor has some issue with his truck est $600, plus he needs new tires, and we've got a plumbing issue that is causing a leak in our gameroom that was due to faulty work last year..not the freeze. Ahhhhhhhhhhh...the thankful part is we can pay to get these things fixed. The selfish part is any money we have that was extra is well---quickly disappearing.

They say things come in three's, so I am hoping for now that's it.

Stay warm - much love always, Lynn

The battery ordeal sounds over the top..hope all went well. Everyone over for dinner tonight. Hope you are staying warm. Great to see Pat and Richie--they look terrific. Now that I know how to do this I will post more. I check all the time, but posting was confusing initially.

Love Dad

Hopefully none of your water lines froze last night. I forgot to leave the water running in hte garage bathroom and the pipes froze. Fortunately I was able to turn the fascet on this morning and keep a trickle of water running through until it warmed up. Should see some warm weather in the next several days so enjoy. Usually there are common conditions after a cold front so maybe the Gulf Stream will be calmed down so you can make the jump. Get out the sun screen!

So cool to see image of all your stops-the Garmin is a real multi-tasker!
We're still thawing out up here too, but thankfully it's been dry since the snow last Friday. Will pray you get warmer weather soon.
Keep posting. J & B love to see too!
PS With my foot/crutches, I still haven't been made a "welcome wagon" hello visit to new neighbors. Deep down, I'm still in denial remembering you and your banana bread visit! :)
